Chinese President in Washington as two nations’ agenda broaden

Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in the United States Tuesday, 18 January to open talks between the two nations in issues that have deep seated disagreements. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signaled a more robust stance on the issue in a speech last Friday, declaring that "America will continue to speak out and to press China" on censorship, the imprisonment of activists, limits on religious freedom and the jailing of lawyers and legal advocates who challenge the government.
The Obama administration on eve of the Chinese leader’s visit has signaled that Beijing must get serious about halting Chinese theft of American intellectual property, eliminating barriers to U.S. imports and revaluing China's currency.
