Former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide is poised to return to his homeland from exile in South Africa.

The ousted leader sent an email to his supporters Thursday saying he hopes to return to Haiti "today, tomorrow, at any time."
Aristide still has significant support in Haiti despite being ousted from power in 2004, and his arrival is partly dependent on whether he will be issued a new Haitian passport.
"As far as I am concerned, I am ready," he wrote. "The purpose is very clear: to contribute to serving my Haitian sisters and brothers as a simple citizen in the field of education."
His statement came as the earthquake-ravaged nation was still adjusting to the arrival of another exiled former president, Jean-Claude (Baby Doc) Duvalier. The former dictator unexpectedly landed in Port-au-Prince Sunday night. He was later charged with corruption, embezzlement and abuse of power.
