Swedish tourists beaten up in tense Tunis

A group of Swedish tourists on a boar hunting trip in Tunisia have been dragged from their taxis and beaten and kicked by locals in Tunis.

The men were attacked as they returned to the capital after their flight was cancelled.
It is reported the mob thought the group was some kind of militia after finding weapons in the vehicles.
Ove Oberg was one of those caught up in the violence.

“We didn’t know if it was the police or not, but they saw our guns and went crazy,” he said. “They had us down, they hit us and kicked us, and everyone was screaming.”
Following the assault the men were taken to the police station where the mistake was discovered.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry is looking into the incident. It had issued a warning about nationals travelling to Tunisia because of the current unrest. But the Swedes had arrived in the country before protests prompted President Ben Ali to flee to Saudi Arabia.
