Tourists Swarm Cairo Airport

Even if they hadn't been closed, now is not a good time to see the Pyramids of Giza. Between 1,500 and 2,000 tourists have flocked to Cairo's main airport, most without reservations, trying to find flights out of the country. Israeli airline El Al is trying to arrange a special flight today to take 200 Israeli tourists out of the country.





On Friday, the U.S. State Department, the British government, and other countries warned tourists in Egypt to stay in their hotels. Tourism accounts for 11 percent of Egypt's GDP.
