Australian floods: water infested by snakes and crocodiles surrounds Rockhampton

Map showing areas in Queensland hit by flood waters. Rockhampton, 500 kilometres (300 miles) from Brisbane and a hub for the farming and coal-mining region, is now the focus for what officials call "biblical" floods affecting 200,000 people in an area the size of France and Germany. /France24

The city of Rockhampton, which has a population of 77,000 people, could be completely cut off from the outside world when the Fitzroy River reaches a height of 31 feet above the usual river level. /Daily Telegraph
